A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the mother of a one-year-old boy killed in Kawartha Lakes on Nov. 26.

The child “was a bubbly boy who was known for sharing his warmth and cheerfulness with everyone around him,” says organizer Bryan Ross in the campaign’s post. His relationship with the child or his family is not stated.

The campaign was started to “aid his mother, a single mother who has raised her two autistic boys and is now mourning the loss of her youngest, and her surviving son with the expenses in their next phase of life.”

The campaign surpassed its goal of $30,000 Monday night.

On Nov. 26, the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) revealed a boy had been killed following a shooting incident. Details revealed by the SIU say: á At approximately 8:45 a.m., the OPP was made aware that a father had abducted his son from the Municipality of Trent Lakes. á A short time later, the OPP located a vehicle of interest — a pickup truck — in the City of Kawartha Lakes on Sturgeon Road. Officers attempted to stop the truck.

á On Pigeon Lake Road, the truck became involved in a collision with an OPP cruiser and a civilian vehicle. At that time, an OPP officer was standing outside of the cruiser and he sustained serious injuries.

á An interaction ensued between the 33-year-old driver of the vehicle and officers, and three officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck and airlifted to the hospital in grave condition.

á Inside the pickup truck was a one-year-old boy. He had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and SIU has not revealed who fired the bullet which struck the child. As part of the investigation, four firearms have been seized, three belonging to police and a fourth which was found in the pickup truck.

On Monday, SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon said the

officer is conscious and in stable condition. She said the 33year-old father of the boy, is unconscious, but in stable condition.

Hudon said the SIU is not releasing the results of an autopsy that was carried out over the weekend “at this time.”

The GoFundMe site, called Jameson Fund, is located at bit.ly/39BZYts.
