More local outbreaks, more hospitalized
Still no word on when Peterborough will get the COVID -19 vaccine as cases keep rising
Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Peterborough city and county, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation were reported Monday afternoon by Peterborough Public Health.
Ten cases have also recovered, dropping the number of active cases to 88.
The jurisdiction now has a cumulative rate of 263 cases per 100,000 people, less than a fifth of the provincial cumulative average of 1,363.9 cases per 100,000 people as of Monday.
There are now four outbreaks. Two of them were declared Dec. 23 at Riverview Manor retirement home in Peterborough and a Community Living group home on Romaine Street. Another was declared Saturday at an unspecified workplace in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, while another was declared Monday at another congregate living facility in the city.
The number of patients with the virus at Peterborough Regional Health Centre increased to five on Monday. All are patients in an in-patient unit, the hospital reported.
Curve Lake First Nation continues to have between one and four cases.
Prior to Christmas break, Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus had one case, St. Peter Secondary School in Peterborough had one student case and St. Paul School in Norwood had one student case.
The health unit is also monitoring 189 people considered to be at high risk because of close contact with a confirmed case, down from 195 on Sunday.
As of Monday, the health unit has received no word on when it might receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
More than 39,450 people, or 26.7 per cent, have now been tested for the virus at least once.

Two new outbreaks in Northumberland County
Eleven new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Northumberland County and seven in the City of Kawartha Lakes were reported Monday by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.
An outbreak that began Dec. 21 at Golden Plough Lodge nursing home in Cobourg has been declared over, the health unit also reported, but there are two new outbreaks, one at Hope Street Terrace, a 97-unit Southbridge Care Homes longterm care home in Port Hope declared on Dec. 31 after one staff member and one resident tested positive, and another at Christian Horizons group home in Northumberland County declared on Jan. 1.
The jurisdiction has now had 572 cumulative cases since the pandemic began in March with 72 of them active.
There have been 272 in the City of Kawartha Lakes with 31 active, 267 in Northumberland County with 27 active and 33 in Haliburton County with four active. Five of the active cases are males under 20 and two are females under 20.
The health unit is also monitoring 92 people in Northumberland County, 58 in the City of Kawartha Lakes and two in Haliburton County who are considered to be at high risk because of close contact with a confirmed case, along with another 27 others for a total of 179.
There have been 34 earlier deaths and 24 hospitalizations so far to date.
There remains one active and two recovered COVID-19 cases at Warkworth Institution federal prison where there have also been a total of 829 inmate tests, Correctional Service Canada reported.
The Central East Correctional Centre has one active and one recovered case, Public Health Ontario reported.
