Santa Claus pays a ‘visit’ to Peterborough seniors
Activity Haven members and friends donated 47 gifts to area seniors through the Be a Santa to a Senior program, run by Home Instead Senior Care.
A festive Christmas tree, erected at Activity Haven from Nov. 6 until early December, was decorated with ornaments that included the names of area seniors and their gift wish requests.
Those participating in the program, took a name from the tree, or phoned in for one, and then shopped for their senior, returning the gifts afterwards for distribution.
The tree had to be refilled with names after all were initially taken!
The Santa to a Senior Program, run by Home Instead Senior Care, identifies seniors who might not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season. They place trees and the name ornaments at different locations in the city and facilitate the distribution of the purchased gifts.
Home Instead Senior Care, located at 241 Charlotte St., offers services and tailor-made support to help aging adults stay engaged in everyday life and keep safe and well at home.
Board members
Activity Haven Seniors Centre is looking for two new board members. A recreation centre for adults 50 years and better, Activity Haven has been a fixture in the Northcrest community for almost 40 years, offering social, recreational and educational programs to members and guests.
The Centre’s board is looking for two new members, who in addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, will be able to bring additional experience to the positions. They are looking for one member with general management governance experience, and another with some facility management experience.
If you think you could fill the bill, or for further information, call the office and leave a message at 705-876-1670. Messages will be checked periodically.
Save Those Empties
Toast TTOK, the empties collection fundraiser for The Theatre on King, has been postponed due to the lockdown.
But be sure to save all your holiday empties, alcohol cans and bottles, as the fundraiser will resume after lockdown ends. You will be able to donate all your saved empties at that time to help out the black box theatre.
In the meantime, you can also make a monetary donation to TTOK. Visit publicenergy.ca/support/donate, then at the FUND line, choose ‘The Theatre on King’ from the drop-down menu.
