Active COVID local case count rises to 50

Two COVID-19 deaths in Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land

Two new COVID-19-related deaths, one in the City of Kawartha Lakes and another in Northumber­land County, were reported Thursday afternoon by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

The new deaths raise the death toll for the jurisdicti­on to 47, with 40 in the City of Kawartha Lakes and seven in Northumber­land County.

The jurisdicti­on has now had 834 cumulative cases with 83 cases active.

The City of Kawartha Lakes has now had 419 cases with 63 active, Northumber­land County has had 367 cases with 15 active and Haliburton County has had 48 cases with five active.

There are also five probable cases in the City of Kawartha Lakes and another in Haliburton County.

More cases are expected in the coming days because the health unit is monitoring 66 people in the City of Kawartha Lakes, 44 in Northumber­land County and 16 in Haliburton County who are considered to be at high risk because of close contact with a confirmed case, along with eight other high-risk contacts.

As of Thursday, Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay had two admitted patients with the virus.

An outbreak that had been declared at the Caressant Care long-term-care home on Mary Street in Lindsay has been lifted, but outbreaks remain in effect at Hope Street Terrace long-term-care home in Port Hope, Caressant Care longterm-care home on McLaughlin Road in Lindsay, the Golden Plough Lodge long-term-care home in Cobourg, Warkworth

Place long-term-care home in Warkworth and the Caressant Care retirement home on Mary Street in Lindsay.

Five new cases in Peterborou­gh

Five new cases of COVID-19 in Peterborou­gh city and county, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation were reported Thursday afternoon by Peterborou­gh Public Health.

Two others have recovered and one case reported earlier has been removed from the tally.

There have now been 535 cumulative cases, with 478 resolved and seven earlier deaths, with 50 active cases, up from 48 on Thursday.

No new deaths or hospitaliz­ations were reported Thursday.

As of Thursday, Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre had 12 in-patients with COVID-19 and 12 patient transfers from other hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area that have reached capacity.

A rescue helicopter from the 424 Transporta­tion and Rescue Squadron from 8 Wing at CFB Trenton conducted a flypast at Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre on Thursday to show support for front-line health-care workers as part of the annual Bell Let’s Talk mental health awareness initiative.

COVID-19 outbreaks are continuing at the Peterborou­gh Retirement Residence on Water Street, the A2/B2 stroke rehabilita­tion ward at Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre, Centennial Place long-term-care home in Millbrook and Regency retirement home in Lakefield.

Holy Cross Secondary School on Lansdowne Street West in Peterborou­gh has one student case, but the school remains open.

More than 41,400 residents, or 28 per cent, have now been tested at least once for the virus, the health unit also reported Thursday.
