Vintage photographs have many stories to tell
Trent Valley Archives (TVA) is hosting a Zoom presentation “Hidden in Plain Sight: How to Date Vintage Photographs” Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. TVA associate archivist Heather Aiton Landry will lead the presentation.
Have old photos of relatives or other historical images you would like to identify or date? You may want to tune into this event.
“When you are trying to place a date on an old family photograph or other historical image, there are many clues in and on the photograph. Some of the best clues are hidden in plain sight,” stated a release for the event.
During the presentation, Heather will look at fashion, such as hats, hairstyles, hem and sleeve lengths that can be used as a means to date old photographs. She will also demonstrate how photographers’ imprints, landscape and incidental items in the background can confirm the date of photos.
Prior to the presentation, special guests MPP Dave Smith and a representative from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will officially recognize the impact of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant received by TVA in 2019.
This presentation is free, but open to TVA members only. Not a member, not a problem. There’s lots of time to sign up for a membership before the event takes place. Visit trentvalleyarchives.com/ membership.
Registration for the presentation is required. Members will receive registration details by email. Registrants will receive instructions for viewing the talk prior to the event.
