Alleged abuser granted bail after woman choked

- Todd Vandonk, Peterborough This Week

Jordan Morin has been released on bail from the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay after allegedly committing another domestic assault while out on bail from an earlier arrest. After a lengthy bail hearing via Zoom on Wednesday, justice of the peace Mark Donohue granted the 23-year-old bail. Morin is charged with two counts of domestic assault, assault causing bodily harm (choking) and mischief under $5,000. According to city police, a woman came forward on Jan. 28 to report a domestic assault that she says occurred in early November. At the time of the alleged assault, Morin was on bail conditions stemming from an alleged assault in September on Curve Lake First Nation’s Cileana Taylor. Taylor is still on life support, according to her family. Morin was charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm in connection to the alleged attack that left the woman in hospital with a lifethreatening brain injury. Following his September arrest, the courts released Morin to a surety with several bail conditions, including staying out of Peterborough and remaining on a court-approved property unless in the direct accompany of his surety. On Nov. 9 city police conducted a traffic stop in the city’s west end and determined the passenger was breaching two of his release conditions. Later in November, Morin pleaded guilty to the breach and was released from custody. Those sureties remain in place on his newest release order which requires Morin to always be in the presence of his sureties unless it is for medical reasons.
