Nourish puts focus on Peterborough food insecurity
Did you know that one in eight Canadian households experience food insecurity and do not have enough money to buy sufficient nutritious food? If you are interested in learning more about food insecurity, you might be interested in Hungry for Income, a new five-part workshop series presented by Nourish.
Food insecurity is a problem in Canada that negatively impacts physical, mental and social health, and has costs for our health-care system. The root of food insecurity is income insecurity, and therefore, effective solutions are income-based. This workshop series will present the realities of poverty in Peterborough and Canada, and will present the most recent available data in a digestible and interactive format.
Hungry for Income takes place Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., beginning this week and running until March 18. All sessions take place online using Zoom. These workshops will provide essential knowledge for anyone involved in emergency food, and relevant to anyone who cares about our community.
All are welcome to attend, but registration is required. Please visit nourishproject.ca/events for more information and to register and receive the Zoom link.
Nourish is also looking for volunteer drivers for their Food Box Program. This program helps hundreds of adults and children in our region access fresh, healthy food. Since the pandemic started, the program has been delivering boxes to almost 300 doors twice a month.
