Accelerator services to be part of new research park
Cleantech Commons reaches deal with Bioenterprise Canada
A new partnership is bringing accelerator services to Cleantech Commons, a clean technology-focused research park currently under development along Pioneer Road at Trent University in Peterborough.
Cleantech Commons has signed a deal with Guelphbased Bioenterprise Canada to join forces in advancing clean technology innovations.
The 85-acre research park aims to provide a home to startups and early-stage companies focused on clean, green, lowcarbon and sustainable technologies, according to a press release from Cleantech Commons.
The new deal will make Bioenterprise’s agriculture and food expertise, national networks and mentorship available to Cleantech Commons clients while bringing new clean technology opportunities to Bioenterprise Canada.
Both organizations plan to access provincial and national funding opportunities through joint proposals that support innovation, the release states.
“We are looking forward to being part of this innovation park and helping Cleantech Commons clients on their journeys to commercialization,” Bioenterprise CEO Dave Smardon stated. “At the same time, it’s exciting for us to be able to open up Canada’s Food and AgriTech Engine to new entrepreneurs and create opportunities that will support growth in our sector and our economy.”
In addition to business acceleration services, Cleantech Commons will also provide incubation programming and coworking spaces for aspiring student entrepreneurs, as well as commercialization training for researchers, the release states.
“At Cleantech Commons we are creating a Canadian hub for collaborative clean technology innovation that brings together industry with academia, students, and the research community to create solutions to global energy, environmental, and climate challenges,” Cleantech Commons executive director Martin Yuill stated.
“This partnership with Bioenterprise will better enable us to offer targeted business acceleration services to our clients to support their development of technologies that will help move us all closer to a net-zero future and generate sustainable, high-value cleantech jobs for Canada.”
Cleantech Commons is a partnership between Trent University and the city. The research park remains under construction.
Cleantech Commons aims to support the development and commercialization of solutions that address global energy, environment, and climate challenges, provide experiential learning for students and employment opportunities for graduates, and create opportunities for industry/academic research collaboration, the release states.
