Fleming College cancels 29 programs
Fleming College has cancelled more than two dozen programs to mitigate international student caps and the elimination of educational private partnerships.
The decision was made by the Board of Governors Tuesday and affects programs being offered for this fall.
A total of 29 programs, offered at both Peterborough’s Sutherland Campus and Lindsay’s Frost Campus, are on the chopping block.
A media release issued by the college Wednesday stated the “difficult, but necessary, evidencebased decisions” will not affect current students.
The college emphasized the priority will be to enable program completion of any student currently enrolled in any of the suspended programs.
Metroland has obtained a copy of a letter by Fleming president Maureen Adamson sent to staff on Wednesday.
In the letter, Adamson states, “The related significant reduction to our budget has had a profound impact on college operations, and we are moving quickly to stabilize our institution and prepare for future years.”
This has meant an accelerated evaluation and review of programs the college can no longer offer, those that need to be consolidated, and those that will evolve. Programs affected include:
■ Business — Accounting (BAC)
■ Business — HR (BHC)
■ Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement (NRL)
■ Ecological Restoration (ERJ)

■ Environmental Visual Communication (EVC)
■ Fish & Wildlife Technology (FW)
■ GAS Environmental & Natural Resource Studies (GSN)
■ General Arts & Science University Transfer (GSU)

Adamson’s letter to staff also states the college is working closely with OPSEU to “follow a robust employment stability process, consistent with the collective agreements.”
