Third time was the charm for the Prince George peewee Freightlin­er Tier 2 Cougars. After finishing with the silver medal at two consecutiv­e tournament­s the Cougars were finally able to nab the elusive gold medal Sunday in the Williams Lake Tier 2 rep tournament.

The Cougars posted a 5-0 record in finishing ahead of the six other teams at the tournament.

In the final they beat the Omineca All-stars 7-2 behind a stellar effort from game MVP Alex Schinkel in the Cougars’ net.

In the semifinal, James Lalikeas had a hat trick for the Cougars in an 11-3 romp over the Prince George Tier 3 team.

During the round-robin play, Schinkel blanked Quesnel 3-0 and Omineca 4-0 while his goaltendin­g partner Gaige Ridland led the Cougars to a 7-1 win over Burns Lake. Corey Cunningham had two goals in the win over Quesnel in Friday’s tournament opener.

Next for the Tier 2 Cougars is a tournament in Grande Prairie in December.

It was a tough weekend for the Prince George Fortwood Homes Tier 4 rep Cougars.

The team headed west for a pair of exhibition games in Houston on Sunday, coming up short in both.

In the first game, the Cougars received offence from Liam O’Beirne and Michael Rolfes in a 4-2 loss.

Nicholas Husband handled the goaltendin­g duties for Prince George.

In the second half of the doublehead­er, O’Beirne staked the Cougars to a 1-0 advantage but Houston potted the next three goals on their way to a 6-4 triumph.

Zach Swanson scored a pair for the Cougars while Evan Guillet had the other goal for Prince George.

Josh Fielding took the loss in the Cougars’ net. The Tier 4 Cougars are coached by Denny Astorino.

Other players are Quinten Astorino, Ryan Hampe, Ashton Kraska, Cameron Taylor, Eric Orlowsky, Dawson Day, Skylar Miller, Tyler Lindstrom, Cole Johnston, Colin Desrocher, Logan Vennberg, Tyler Braaten, and Nolan Dancey.
