The premier pottery organization in northern B.C., the Prince George Potters Guild, is offering to share their expertise.

“You’ve always wanted to learn to do pottery. You’ve been looking for a creative outlet. Now is the time to reward yourself. We have outstanding teachers and all the facilities you need,” said a statement issued Friday by the PGPG.

A slate of classes is set to run throughout the fall at their facility at Studio 2880. The lessons are aimed at beginners, and no prior experience is necessary to participate.

There is a set of classes that run Tuesday nights from Oct. 11 to Nov. 15 and a set of Thursday classes running from Nov. 10 to Dec. 15. The instructors are Kate Cooke and Elizabeth Tobin.

Signup is available at Studio 2880 (located at 2880 15th Ave.) for a course fee of $250.

There are six nights of instruction (6:30-9 p.m.), clay and all tools provided, and aspects like glazing and firing happen as part of the instruction process.

“This is an introductory course on clay and the potter’s wheel,” said the potters guild statement. “Students learn basic clay preparation, throwing and glazing techniques used to make pots from start to finish. One week is set aside to explore hand-building techniques using the slabroller and the extruder. Students are encouraged to use the studio for practice during their six weeks of instruction and four weeks of studio time.

“Typical throwing projects include cylinders (mugs, jugs, vases, etc) and bowls.”
