Prince George represented in Story Hive competition
Vote for local videos. Story Hive is once again offering cash for a screen arts competition. There are two Prince George contenders, and two more with ties to the broader region.
Story Hive is an ongoing program facilitated by Telus to boost the screen arts industries of B.C. and Alberta. This time, the dangling cash carrot is for music videos. Each entry is a team of music acts and filmmakers. Each pairing submitted a video conversation explaining how their project would look if they won the money.
The Prince George entries to get through the first round of applications show a strong level of collaboration this city’s arts community is known for.
One is local band Black Spruce Bog, featuring Kym Gouchie as a special musical guest on their song Indian Agent, which is a tune written primarily by another P.G. talent, Raghu Lokanathan, based on a story told him by an aboriginal elder in the community. All that would be in the lens of local auteur Daniel Stark from 6ixSigma Productions.
The other is a musical melding of guitar rocker Jer Breaks (currently in Dallas Smith’s band, touring the nation and performing live at the Juno Awards) and electronica creator Chad Magnant. Both are from P.G. and their aim is to film a video live at Northern FanCon that would spotlight the epic costumes of the city’s cosplay scene. The eye behind the camera would be local director Evan Ollenberger.
Meanwhile, the contest also has a video pitch from progressiverock star Dan Mangan who was born in Smithers, and another by Miss Quincy & The Showdown, the band fronted by Peace-country blues rocker Jody Peck.

The voting will help determine a final shortlist, and the eventual winner gets $10,000 in production funding, to make the video ideas come to life.
