Fatal crash in Pine Pass Sunday

One person is dead as a result of a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 in the Pine Pass Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found one person dead and another trapped in the wreck. A Jeep was traveling north on the highway when the driver lost control and drove into the ditch.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was removed from the car and taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe alcohol and distracted driving to be factors in the crash and they continue to investigate.
