Pink Floyd is doing no active performing.

This iconic British mega-band, the standard setters for progressive rock, have not done a tour since their triumphant Division Bell junket in 1994. With a lineup that has endured deaths of core members, profound artistic differences internally and the passage of time, there is little chance Pink Floyd will ever reunite.

But oh, that music. The songs were more than hits. Their impact transcended mere chart positions. The Wall. Dark Side of the Moon. Wish You Were Here. A Momen- tary Lapse of Reason. These were not so much albums as cultural epochs of the rock kind. And they were accompanied by concert events that resonated across the globe with their epic graphics and effects. So what’s an invested fan to do? How does the deep hunger of appreciation become satiated?

There are options. Many Pink Floyd tribute acts are on the move, but none are more acclaimed that Brit Floyd. This band is called the closest shade of pink to the real Floyd.

CN Centre general manager Glen Mikkelsen described them as “The world’s greatest Pink Floyd band” and was excited to announce they’d be coming to the city’s biggest event room. “Brit Floyd comes to northern B.C. for the first time ever. Direct from Britain, Brit Floyd is on their Immersion Tour.”

The group consists of six instrumental musicians and lead vocalists, plus a chorus of singers and a high-tech set of props and effects. Animation, lighting, video, lasers, inflatables, sound engineering... it’s all stadium sized and Floyd influenced.

The stage show has been called “lavish” for the Immersion World Tour.

“The spectacle of a Pink Floyd concert experience is truly recaptured in high-definition sound, and with a stunning million-dollar light show and state of the art video design,” said a CN Centre statement. “As well as performing the favourite moments from (the classic albums), Brit Floyd will also pay special tribute to the Animals album, in its 40th anniversary year, with a show-stopping rendition of Dogs, as well as a host of other Pink Floyd musical gems.”

The Brit Floyd event comes to Prince George in between their dates at Edmonton and Vancouver. They ignite the CN Centre on Dec. 3 set on “faithfully recreating the scale and pomp of the final 1994 Division Bell tour,” and sending fans away believing this show “really is as close as fans will ever get to experiencing the magnificence of a Pink Floyd show live.”

Ticket prices range between $40 and $65, available as of 10 a.m. Friday at the Tickets North box office at CN Centre or on the Tickets North website.
