Hillary’s pity party continues

O

- KATHI TRAVERS

n Tuesday, after my radio show, I went off to Books & Co. to get Hillary’s new book. I was as shocked as many that the bizarre guy got in. I am still trying to figure out how the Americans could elect such a bigot. Obviously too many were drinking the Kool-Aid.

He was elected and I had tried to give him the benefit of doubt for a month or two but my gut was right. He is a total embarrassment to the nation.

Back to Hillary. Her book went on sale on Tuesday. Hundreds of people lined up at Barnes & Noble in New York City in 80-degree weather to secure a copy of her book, What Happened. It’s a tell all, from her point of view, on how she lost. I didn’t write a book but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why she lost.

People were camped out the night before so they could get this book and an opportunity to meet the first woman candidate to run for president. In true Hillary fashion, and lacking the charm and charisma of her husband, she was almost an hour late with no apology or even a hello.

Then there were the rules. You had to have a wristband and you could only present her with the book that you purchased at the store. Absolutely no selfies. This is not how you thank your fans for the support they gave you. This is not how you thank people who camped out the night before to get a few seconds with this woman.

I remember, many years ago, hosting a book signing for Siegfried & Roy at the same bookstore. The boys were gracious and kind to the many that showed up. They are, and always will be, two classy gentlemen in my eyes.

In her book, Hillary is quick to blame Bernie Sanders, the Russians and, most of all, James Comey for her defeat.

Yes, Hillary did get my vote in the primaries as well as the presidential elections, but the primary choices were very slim – a lifelong Democrat versus the longest serving, left-leaning independent in U.S. congressional history. Where were the additional Democrats in those debates?

We are seeing a divided country to the south of us because there are no longer viable third party options.

Let’s be realistic. She, along with the Democratic party, blew that election big time. They won the popular vote centred in the urban United States, but they forgot about seriously campaigning in states like Michigan and Wisconsin.

Americans were so desperate for change, just like a recent election in Canada where it was “anyone but Harper” and, more recently, closer to home, “anyone but Christy”.

The Democrats need to get on the ball and get some good candidates. Hillary needs to move on and get a new hobby. Time to stop making excuses and get off the pity pot.

I had to put the Hillary point of view back on the shelf. I am just not in the mood for all that drama.

I am reading a very good book by a Democrat that shows much promise. His name is Al Franken. His book, Giant of the Senate, proves that he is the real deal, beginning from a slightly unusual campaign start to where he is now.

Franken gets things done. His book is definitely worth the read. It is a great and honest insight into the evil world of politics. If you liked him on Saturday Night Live, you will admire him in Washington.
