Hart dog owners have their day
Dog owners can now enjoy another pet-friendly park with their beloved furry friends.
Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park has recently installed a fenced dog area making it now one of four off-leash dog parks in the city.
Last fall, the City of Prince George officially opened the park featuring a new state-of-the-art skate park in the Hart neighbourhood, a playground as well as the addition of the fenced dog park, the first in the Hart.
“We are pleased to be able to help realize these goals for Hart residents and dog owners,” said city engineering assistant and project manager Michael le Morvan.
The brand new dog area includes pet waste stations and newly paved trails with lighting to be installed later this year.
The improvements resulted from recommendations in the 2017 City Parks Strategy and the park officially opened in September, 2016 after a successful collaboration between the City of Prince George and the Hart Community Association.
“The park is a great example of how a strong, well-led neighbourhood organization can work effectively with their local government to achieve great things for their community,” le Morvan said.
Pet owners at off-leash parks in the city must, however, continue to exercize caution by having their dogs remain under their control and supervision at all times.
With the exception of designated offleash park areas and private property, all pets must be on a leash in the City of Prince George, owners must carry a leash with them at all times and pet owners must use pet designated waste stations.
Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park was renamed in 2011 in memory of Prince George-raised Cpl. Fitzpatrick who was killed during a mission in Afghanistan and in honour of all Canadian soldiers.
In September, students from Glenview Elementary school planted 10 new trees in the park and along with city staff, erected a thank you sign for all supporters and sponsors.
The budget for park upgrades total $200,000.
