A public meeting regarding the state of Pidherny Recreation Site will be held on Oct. 12.

“The purpose is to bring mainly the residents of North Nechako together with the Recreation Sites and Trails Branch of the Ministry of Forest, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development ,” said Brock Paciejewski, recreation technician with the Prince George/Mackenzie Forest District Recreation Sites and Trails B.C.

“We just want these residents to be able to voice their concerns and make sure they are informed. I don’t think everyone is aware of our branch, who we are and what we manage.”

The Pidherny Recreation Site is a 620 hectare area located about 12 km northwest of downtown Prince George.

The trail network includes 25 mountain bike trails of which 12 are cross country/ all mountain and 13 are free/ride downhill specific.

Earlier this year, Prince George City Council agreed to support the expansion of the Pidherny Trail network.

The area continues to be a popular destination for visitors and continues to offer various events throughout the summer months including the PG Kids Learn to Ride Program and the Prince George Tricycle Race.

“But there are a lot of people who don’t understand our branch,” Paciejewski said.

We want to explain what we do and hear what residents might be concerned about so we can all work together.”

The meeting will be held at the Ministry of Forests, Mines and Lands, Prince George District (2000 Ospika Boulevard South) on Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.

Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources.
