Politicians need reality check

-

Do our elected politicians really understand the realities of today?

Last Friday, they announced that there was $900 million surplus left unused in the advanced education account.

This account was set up during the Stephen Harper years.

To access monies from this account the parents must have enrolled their son or daughter in a Registered Education Savings Plan.

Many Canadians work for wages under $15 per hour without benefits. By the time these people pay for shelter and food there isn’t a whole lot of disposable income left. This year Canada will immigrate many educated professionals to fill high-paying jobs that our own children can ill-afford the education to access.

Every year we increase the cost of higher education, we fill classroom vacancies with foreign students.

Starting in January, we will hear a lot of advertisements about purchasing RRSPs, RESPs, and TFSPs.

Every year under the current system we will see many Canadian parents’ hopes dashed because the very cost of advanced education isn’t affordable. Now some people will say they can apply for scholarships and bursaries.

Since the downsizing and Fair Trade Agreements the number of these awards available have tanked. These awards are few and far between. Some will say you can always work and save towards your higher education. Many companies now demand unpaid internists so at a time when these people should be working and saving up for next semester they can’t. If these individuals don’t do this unpaid internist work there may not be employment waiting for them at the end.

When politicians announce these programs, spin doctors make them sound like a cure-all, so cuddly but just window dressing. Our politicians don’t have to worry about these things with their good pay, extended medical, dental, and golden pension plan. These plans are the best of the best.
