Two seconds. After 40 minutes of racing Sunday in the IBU Cup biathlon single mixed relay in Obertilliach, Austria, just two ticks of the clock is all that kept Sarah Beaudry of Prince George and Carsen Campbell of Bedeque, P.E.I. , off the medal podium.

The two Canadians were right on the heels of Ukrainians Yulia Zhuravok and Artem Pryma when Pryma crossed the finish just ahead of Campbell to claim the bronze medal

Russia (Kristina Reztsova and Alexey Volkov) won gold in 39:07.2, 37.1 seconds ahead of the silver medalists from France (Julia Simon and Emilien Jacquelin).

It was the second fourth-place result for Beaudry/Campbell in the single mixed relay, which includes two ski segments and four bouts of shooting for each biathlete. Beaudry shot clean in her first bout and had two misses in her standing bout on the range. Campbell missed three his first bout and had one miss in his second bout.

They were 2:07.3 behind the goldmedal pace of Norway (1:10:44.9). Germany won silver and France took bronze.

Justine Briasaz of France won gold in the women’s event and Martin Fourcade of France took the men’s race.

Beaudry placed 24th in the IBU Cup biathlon women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint Saturday.
