Crime Stoppers contribute­s to 24 arrests in 2017

The Prince George Crime Stoppers program received 565 tips in 2017, resulting in 24 arrests, according to a press release from the Prince George Crime Stoppers Society.

Tips made by the public to Crime Stoppers resulted in the recovery of $103,000 in property and the seizure of $153,750 in drugs.

In 2017, 15 people who reported tips to Prince George Crime Stoppers received awards for their informatio­n worth a total of $2,455.

“The board of directors of Prince George Crime Stoppers Society would like to thank the citizens of Prince George and surroundin­g areas for continuing to provide vital informatio­n that has led to arrests and seizures in 2017,” the society said in a statement. “The board would also like to thank the hard working and dedicated members of the RCMP in Prince George and neighbouri­ng communitie­s for continuing to support this worthwhile program.”

Members of the Crime Stoppers society will be promoting the program and offering prizes at the UNBC Timberwolv­es game on Saturday, the Prince George Spruce Kings game on Jan. 12 and the Prince George Cougars game on Jan. 19.

Crime Stoppers also hosts its annual Spring ShredIt event on April 21, in partnershi­p with Shred-It Mobile Shredding Services, for individual­s to shred personal documents by donation.
