ne of Canada’s leading wildlife photographers will be in Prince George for public engagements tonight and Thursday.

John Marriott is a columnist for Outdoor Photography Canada Magazine and his latest book is Tall Tales, Long Lenses. According to Marriott, it chronicles “a storied career that has included magazine covers, best-selling books, billboards, a Royal Canadian Mint coin, a Canada Post stamp, a photography column in a national publication and a conservation-themed web series.”

The book is a greatest hits package of photos and encounters that propelled him to press the shutter for some of the most moving and inspiring images ever captured on the Canadian landscape.

The Prince George Photographic Society and UNBC are co-hosting Marriott’s appearances in Prince George.

“My goal with this book was to reflect back on the first 20 years of my career and the special moments and experiences I have shared with wild animals throughout Canada along the way,” Marriott said. “I wanted to take the reader along with me on my journey as a wildlife photographer, sharing my most treasured memories and favorite subjects over the years. Not only is it a collection of stories and events that reflect on my past, but the book also looks forward to the future to where my career is headed.”

His first event is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the university’s Canfor Theatre. He will discuss an array of his photos, the animals in focus, the outdoor conditions happening at the time, and how the photos have found their respective audiences. Admission is by donation and his new book will be for sale and autograph on-site.

Marriott’s second event is a wildlife photography seminar at UNBC’s Weldwood Theatre on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $30 for Prince George Photographic Society members or $50 for non-members. To register for this hands-on interactive workshop, email your interest to bstevent@uniserve.com or call Bob at 250-562-3717.

Marriott’s past bestseller books include The Pipestone Wolves: The Rise and Fall of a Wolf Family; Wildlife of the Canadian Rockies; The Canadian Rockies: Banff, Jasper & Beyond; and Banff & Lake Louise: Images of Banff National Park.

He is the host of the web series Exposed and his images have appeared in highlight publications like National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Canadian Geographic, Maclean’s and Reader’s Digest.
