Ticket deposit sales for Prince George’s bid for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier passed 1,100 this week, halfway to the city’s goal of selling 2,020 by April 15.

The city launched its bid for the Brier last month, urging residents and businesses to purchase a $20.20 deposit for a 2020 tournament pass to demonstrate the level of community support for hosting the men’s national curling championship. Tickets can be purchased at or by phone at 1-888-293-6613.

The P.G. Brier bid committee issued a statement Thursday encouraging northern B.C. businesses to make group or bulk purchases to support the bid.

“Bringing the Brier to Prince George is fantastic for business and we need businesses to support the bid,” said CN Centre manager and 2020 bid chair Glen Mikkelsen in a news release.

“The ticket deposits are a great way businesses can help demonstrate that Prince George is the best host city for the 2020 Brier.”

Those who buy a 2020 Brier ticket deposit will be entered into a draw to win four tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s Crystal for opening night on April 25.

The full price of a tournament pass has yet to be determined. The passes will reserve a seat to all draws of the Brier, including playoff and final games. The tournament passes will also provide access to the “Brier Patch” party, the legendary flagship party of the tournament.

The successful bid will be announced in the fall.

This year’s Brier is set to begin today in Regina.
