The Prince George Citizen

Prince George has ‘piss-poor’ manners

-

On Sunday night, I went to an amazing performance of Dirty Dancing.

It will probably be the closest I get to Broadway as I have no desire to go to New York.

It was very professionally done, with seamless set changing, incredible music and extremely talented dancers. It was a class act all the way.

Which leads me to my point – Prince George, you need to learn some manners at a theatre production.

Number one, do not come drunk. I have no issue with having a glass of wine or a beer, but you were already completely wasted at the beginning of the show. And remember how they asked you to put your phones away? Can you not for two hours stay off of your electronics? You don’t need to text while the show is on. And finally, Prince George, you need to learn some class.

At the end of the show, as with stage productions, the cast comes out and bows to the audience.

We at that point are supposed to acknowledge them and give them a good clap, maybe even a standing ovation if we so desire.

We are not supposed to get out of our seats running for the exits so we can be the first ones out of the parking lot.

Please, Prince George, have some admiration and respect for the amazing show you have just seen. At least one quarter of the people in their seats got up and left. It was incredibly rude. We are finally getting some good quality stage productions here and we are doing a piss-poor job of appreciating the talent that is willing to come to Prince George.

I know there is a bit of a learning curve for all of us but let’s start showing some basic theatre etiquette – these behaviors aren’t tolerated in Vancouver. So if you missed the show you missed an incredible night of talent on stage and I hope these productions will continue to come to our city.

And I hope maybe we can all have better manners when we go out in public.

Theresa Goudreau, Prince George
