Giant Garage Sale a hit at Elder Citizens Recreation Centre

The line dancers group held their annual Giant Garage Sale at the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre Saturday as a fundraising event.

All proceeds go toward centre operating costs.

“So many seniors are downsizing these days,” Kathy Nadalin, one of the organizers of the garage sale and longtime Elder Citizens Recreation Association (ECRA) member, said. “At our giant garage sale people could find all kinds of items.”

Members of ECRA donated to the ever-popular bake table. There were three long tables set up and by 10:30 a.m. the tables had already been replenished for the second time.

The craft group had a special display of their handmade items for sale and there were many household items on display that spanned the entire length of the community hall space within the seniors’ facility walls.

Refreshments were also on offer during the event and as people were tired from shopping, they could take a break, enjoy a treat, tea or coffee and get right back to it.

There are 900 members at ECRA and the association only gets partial funding for their facility, which leaves a lot of fundraising to the many groups that are housed at the centre.

“The line dancers are in pretty good shape and can do the heavy lifting so that’s why we do the garage sale every year,” Nadalin said.

“We also had other volunteers help us with the sale and it’s always a big success.”
