- Citizen staff

A date to elect the mode of trial for former Burns Lake mayor Luke Strimbold has been put over to June 19.

The move was made Tuesday during a hearing in Smithers provincial court.

Strimbold has been charged with 24 sex-related offences.

Nineteen of the 24 offences are alleged to have occurred while Strimbold was mayor of the northern B.C. town of 2,000; the other five allegedly occurred after his abrupt resignation in September 2016.

Strimbold was arrested on Feb. 3 and was released on conditions.

Vancouver lawyer Leonard Doust has been appointed special prosecutor for the case.
