Schwartz out for rest of worlds
COPENHAGEN (CP) — Canada will be without the services of Jaden Schwartz when they take on Switzerland in the semifinals of the world hockey championship today.
The St. Louis Blues forward will miss the remainder of the tournament with an upperbody injury, Hockey Canada announced Friday. Schwartz, 25, has posted four assists in eight games.
The injury will not affect his availability for the Blues’ training camp in September. The native of Wilcox, Sask., had 59 points in 62 games for St. Louis this season.
Canada advanced to the semis with a 5-4 overtime win over Russia on Thursday.
Andretti fastest at Indy again
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Marco Andretti again finished atop the Indianapolis 500 speed chart Friday, posting the fastest lap of the day at 231.802 mph. The Andretti Autosport driver also was the fastest on the historic 2.5-mile oval Wednesday and third-fastest Thursday. Rookie Robert Wickens was second at 231.732, with ownerdriver Ed Carpenter winding up third at 231.066. Wickens drives for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Australian driver James Davison hit the wall hard exiting the second turn and was checked and released from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield medical centre. He also was cleared to drive.
Diamondbacks activate Lamb
NEW YORK (AP) — Jake Lamb has been reinstated from the disabled list by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who hope the return of their All-Star third baseman will boost a struggling lineup.
The move comes just a few days after the NL West leaders lost centre fielder A.J. Pollock for the next four to eight weeks because of a broken left thumb. Pollock was hitting .293 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs, pacing the team in all three categories.
Lamb was set to bat third Friday night against the New York Mets.
