Paving projects set
Two resurfacing projects for Highway 16 are in this summer’s job jar.
One is for a 36-kilometre stretch between Josephine Road, west of Prince George, and Hillcrest Way, east of Vanderhoof. Peters Brothers Construction Ltd. from Penticton has been awarded the $8.6-million contract.
The other is for 20 kilometres, from West Twin Creek to Bell Mountain Road, about 15 kilometres northwest of McBride.
This project was originally scheduled for last summer but was delayed due to the wildfires. Hotin-place recycled asphalt will be used. Green Roads Recycling Ltd. from Fernie has been awarded the $2.3-million contract.
Work on both projects is scheduled to start June and be completed in the fall. Drivers are asked to follow the instructions of traffic control personnel and traffic signs and check DriveBC for updates.
Car wash today
The Prince George RCMP, the B.C. Sheriffs Service and Prince George Fire Rescue will be holding a car wash today at Canadian Tire to raise money for Special Olympics B.C. This “clean, fun event” runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost for a wash is a minimum donation of $10.
In addition, 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each. With only 2,000 tickets being sold, the maximum prize to be awarded is $5000. Proceeds will be added to funds raised for the upcoming Law Enforcement Torch Run to be held June 7 at the Prince George RCMP detachment. Ultimately, all the money raised from both events will be donated to Special Olympics B.C. to support Prince George area athletes. Last year, over 50 cars were washed and nearly $2,000 was raised.
MS walk Sunday
A walk to raise funds to combat multiple sclerosis will be held this Sunday at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. The check-in time is 11 a.m. and the walk starts at noon.
Participants can choose from varying route lengths, including a wheelchair accessible route for participants using mobility aids.
