The Prince George Citizen

City hall wages ‘criminal’

-

It is about time someone exposed the City of Prince George for the gouging of its citizens.

I would go a step further by asking every citizen to go to the city’s website and type in “City of Prince George pay grades-for the year ended December 31, 2016” and refer to pages nine through 16.

These pages list every employee by name (excluding mayor and councillors) and the wages they earn.

This should be an affront to every one of us.

There are 289 employees earning over $75,0000 per year.

Of that 289, there are 136 earning over $100,000 per year (nearly half) and a few earning over $200,000.

And that is only to the end of December 2016.

How much will those wages increase this year?

The thought of five city workers standing and staring at a pothole and making probably $80,000 each per year really burns me.

The city manager, Kathleen Soltis earns over $284,000 annu- ally for a city of approx. 90,0000 citizens.

Prime Minister Trudeau earns $347,000 annually for supervising approx. 36,000,000 citizens.

Somehow the math does not add up.

How dare the mayor and council complain about lack of funds to run the city when they are paying their employees these outrageous wages?

No one at the city should receive a raise for the next 15 years.

Municipal employees earn far more than any other branch of government. This has to stop.

I am tired of having my utilities and my taxes increased to pay these wages. It is criminal at best.

Stuart Dick Prince George 58 per cent of the vote. There is no local representation for those who did not vote Liberal.

Proportional representation would give a voice to those who do not get on average the winning 44 per cent in B.C. elections of the votes that make up 60 per cent of the seats in Victoria and have 100 per cent of the power.

We have large federal ridings. Do we have complaints about those losing “local voice?’’

Finally, who is financing whole-page advertisements and is against a fairer way of getting representation?

Just asking.

No one at the city should receive a raise for the next 15 years.
