Henderson has share of lead

SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — Brooke Henderson shot a bogey-free fiveunder 66 on Friday to move into a tie for the lead after two rounds at the Marathon Classic.

The 20-year-old Canadian and Caroline Hedwall of Sweden were at nine-under 133 through 36 holes. Thidapa Suwannapur­a was one shot back. Henderson and Hedwall each birdied the final two holes at Highland Meadows, which are par 5s.

The 29-year-old Hedwall is looking for her first LPGA Tour victory. Henderson won earlier this season in Hawaii, the sixth of her career.

Defending champion I.K. Kim was three strokes behind. Sei Young Kim, who shot an LPGA Tourrecord 31-under 257 to win last week’s event in Wisconsin, was eight shots back after a one-over 72 on Friday.

Utley to retire at end of season

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chase Utley will retire from baseball at the end of this season, capping a 16-year career that included a World Series championsh­ip with Philadelph­ia and an elder-statesman role

with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The six-time All-Star said he’s leaving to spend more time with his wife and two young sons. Utley announced his decision at a jammed news conference in the bowels of Dodger Stadium on Friday, with several of his teammates surprising him by crowding into the small, steamy room.

“I just want you guys to know that I’ve signed a five-year extension,” Utley deadpanned, drawing laughter from manager Dave Roberts, Kenley Jansen, Justin Turner, Alex Wood, Andrew Toles, Joc Pederson, Logan Forsythe and Ross Stripling.

Jays snap Boston’s win streak

BOSTON (AP) — Kevin Pillar had four hits and Justin Smoak had three, including a pair of homers, and they drove in four runs apiece on Friday night to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Red Sox 13-7 and snap Boston’s 10-game winning streak.

Dwight Smith Jr. also homered for Toronto, which won for the second time in six games. Jake Petricka (1-0) pitched two innings of shutout ball in relief of Ryan Borucki, who lasted just threeplus innings but left with an 8-6 lead.

Mookie Betts had three hits, including two triples, to raise his major league-leading batting average to .357. J.D. Martinez had two hits for the Red Sox, who won

15 of their previous 17 games and will head into the All-Star break with the best record in baseball and the AL East lead.

Chapman won’t pitch in All-Star Game

CLEVELAND (AP) — Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman won’t pitch in the All-Star Game in order to rest his sore left knee. Chapman earned his 25th save Thursday against the Cleveland Indians in his first appearance since Saturday, when he was removed from a game in Toronto after facing one batter because of discomfort in the knee. Chapman, who has made the AllStar team five times, is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in 40 appearance­s. He has struck out 67 in 39 innings and held opponents to a .129 batting average.

Lakers’ Ball to have knee surgery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Lakers guard Lonzo Ball is scheduled to undergo arthroscop­ic surgery Tuesday on his left knee.

The team said Friday that it will provide an update on Ball’s condition after the surgery. He has a torn meniscus.

Ball, who was chosen by the Lakers with the second overall pick in last year’s draft, averaged 10.2 points and 7.2 assists during his first NBA season. He started 50 games.
