WESCAR racing at PGARA on Sunday

The province’s richest class of stock car racing class takes centre stage in the Central Interior this weekend with races today in Quesnel and Sunday afternoon in Prince George.

The WESACAR Late Model Touring Series returns Quesnel at Gold Pan Speedway for the Twin Rivers 100.

The race, sponsored by the Quesnel Auto Racing Associatio­n, gets underway with time trials at 4 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m.

Then on Sunday afternoon at PGARA Speedway in Prince George, the WESCAR doublehead­er concludes with the PGARA 100. Qualifying for that 100-lap race starts at 1 p.m., with racing at 2 p.m. This will be the second and third stops in the five-event WESCAR season schedule. Races will follow July 28 in Agassiz and Sept. 23 in Quesnel.

Quesnel driver Jarrett Bonn, who won the June 16 feature race in Prince George, leads the point standings with 91, followed by Chris Babcock of Fort St John and Austin Ogonoski of Edmonton, who each have 82 points.

Also included in the afternoon races Sunday will be action in three of PGARA’s regular stock car classes – Canadian Tire street stock, Chieftain Auto Part mini stock and Tri-Par RV Rentals hornets.

Lyall McComber has 24 points and is clinging to a two-point lead over second-place Shane Murphy atop the street stock standings. Jeremy Floer, with 42 points, is the early-season mini stock points leader, eight ahead of rookie Spencer Forseth, while Tristan Bruvold, with 36 points, is one up in second-place Keely Rommel.

Then on Sunday afternoon at PGARA Speedway in Prince George, the WESCAR doublehead­er concludes with the PGARA 100.
