All-action roundup for the rest of the province

Canada’s top two women’s volleyball programs will both in action this weekend in the Greater Vancouver area.

The No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbir­ds play host to the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack of Kamloops in matches tonight (6 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m.) at UBC’S War Memorial Gymnasium.

At Trinity Western University in Langley, the No. 2-ranked Alberta Pandas do battle with the No. 8-ranked, host Spartans in matches tonight (6 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m.) at the David Enarson Gymnasium.

CIS women’s and men’s basketball doublehead­ers (tonight and Saturday) take place on three fronts, all outside of the Lower Mainland. Fraser Valley plays at Victoria, UBC is at Thompson Rivers, and Trinity Western is at UBC Okanagan.

In NCAA Div. 2 women’s basketball, the Simon Fraser Clan play host to Alaska-fairbanks on Saturday (7 p.m.).

The UBC men’s hockey team (7-7-2) opens the second half of its Canada West season tonight and Saturday in a pair of 7 p.m. starts against the visiting Regina Cougars (4-12-2) at the Doug Mitchell Arena. UBC split its two-game home-andhome exhibition series last weekend with SFU, but lost out in the battle for the University Hockey Classic after falling to the Clan in a shootout Saturday night in Burnaby to decide the series winner.
