Tseng fans show the love and golfer gives it back

-

World No. 1 Yani Tseng struggled at the Vancouver Golf Club, finishing her CN Canadian Women’s Open with scores of 75-74-74 after an opening round 66. She ended up tied for 35th at one-over 289.

But that didn’t stop her legions of fans from showing their love.

Before she got to the clubhouse Sunday she stood for about 20 minutes and signed autographs for a long line of folks who wanted to meet her.

“It’s great,” she said of the moment. “Thanks to all the people for supporting me here.

“I’m feeling good. Even though it didn’t come out as good as I wanted, I’m really looking forward to coming back here.” What might have been

Gerina Piller of the U.S. had a hot round Sunday.

She fired six birdies through first 13 holes but ran out of real estate and finished at five-under 67 for the day and in a tie for 11th with a four-under 284.

A mulligan on her last three holes Saturday — all bogeys — might have helped. What was she doing? Defending champion Brittany Lincicome of the U.S. was one-under par heading into her third hole Sunday, apar three. A strong round could have meant a solid payday.

Instead Lincicome scored an eight on the hole to go to four-over. She then bogeyed the fourth and fifth holes and finished her final front nine at 42. She ended up with a seven-over 79 and a 294 for the tournament, good enough only to tie for 60th and earn a cheque of $4,763.
