Henderson claims victory in South Bend Murray takes Queen’s Club

-

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Canadian teen Brooke Henderson won the Four Winds Invitational on Sunday for her first Symetra Tour title.

The 17-year-old from Smiths Falls, Ont., closed with a 3-under 69 for a two-stroke victory, finishing at 10-under 206 at Blackthorn.

She tied for fifth last week in the Women’s PGA Championship, the second of the LPGA Tour’s five majors.

Henderson made three straight birdies on Nos. 11-13, parred the next four holes and bogeyed the last. She opened with rounds of 72 and 65. Second-round leader Dottie Ardina of the Philippines was second. She birdied the final hole for a 74.

American Selanee Henderson, Jessica Wallace of Langley and Italy’s Giulia Molinaro tied for third at 7-under. Selanee Henderson had a 65, and Wallace and Molinaro shot 70.

Henderson is ranked 51st on the LPGA rankings list — making her the highest-ranked player to ever compete on the Symetra Tour. LONDON — Andy Murray claimed his 34th career title on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over unseeded South African Kevin Anderson in the final of the grass-court Queen’s Club tournament.

Top-seeded Murray, who was contesting his 50th career final, also won the event in 2009, 2011 and 2013. He joins John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt as a four-time winner of the event.

It was Murray’s third title of the year, following victories in Munich and Madrid.

Earlier Sunday, the third-ranked Murray completed a 6-3, 7-6 (4) semifinal win over Serbia’s Viktor Troicki after rain stopped play Saturday.

Anderson was playing his 10th career final and his first on grass.

A win would have given him his 200th career victory.

Federer wins Gerry Weber

HALLE, Germany — Roger Federer defeated Italy’s Andreas Seppi 7-6 (1), 6-4 to claim a record eighth Gerry Weber Open title Sunday in his 10th final at the event.

Federer dug deep to take big points and broke the 45th-ranked Seppi for the first time at his fifth attempt to seal his 15th career title on grass.

Seppi missed three break points in the first set, while Federer responded with two successive aces when the Italian had two set points.
