Complaints? Not from Canada’s Fritsch

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — It was a successful week for Brad Fritsch at the U.S. Open, even though the Canadian would only describe his game this week as “fine.”

The 37-year-old was proud to make it into the weekend at Chambers Bay and even seemed to enjoy himself more than many of his colleagues.

“We had fun, especially after we made the cut,” Fritsch said.

“We were just trying to improve our position each day. The first two days were — I don’t want to say nerve-racking — but I clearly wanted to make my first cut in a major.”

Wearing his familiar Ottawa Senators logoed golf shirt, Fritsch said he was hoping to get something going on the weekend but it never quite materialized. He shot a 2-over 72 on Sunday to finish the week at 8-over (70-74-72-72).

Describing the championship as awkward and difficult, Fritsch never wavered from his attitude that there was no point moaning about the greens or any other bad breaks during the tournament.

With his week in the books, Fritsch said he felt like he never really caught any good breaks.

“But maybe everyone can say that out here,” Fritsch said, sticking to his nowhining policy. “I can’t count how many times where an extra yard would’ve carried a fairway bunker and left me in so much better position, but that’s all right, I mean, hey, I needed the extra yard and I didn’t have it.”

When told of some of the comments about the greens Ernie Els and Billy Horschel had made earlier in the day, Fritsch was not about to join in the fun.

“They have more cachet than I do, so they can afford to say that stuff,” Fritsch said.
