Big Releases on April 8: The Lumineers (Cleopatra); M83 (Junk)

Big Picture: Remember that folk-rock song Ho Hey that you couldn’t get out of your head, and that probably owed royalties to the Seven Dwarfs? Well, get ready for a whole new album of whimsical melodies to keep you up at night! Denver band The Lumineers shines a new light with a sophomore effort. Debut single Ophelia is another addictive roots stomper, but it sounds like it was written by a band trying to copy Ho Hey. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess, especially when you imitate yourself. Meanwhile, the talented French electronic band, M83, releases its seventh studio album — which wins my award for least appealing title ever. But what do I know? I predict it will start a new trend of semi-ironic marketing. You can look forward to a future Justin Bieber album called Total Crap or a Nickelback album titled Are You Kind of an Insufferable Jackass? Great! Then You’ll Really Like This Music.

Forecast: The Lumineers will be in your head again on endless shuffle. You might as well just give in and folk it up.
