112.5 HIGHEST CSI IN CANADA

Saskatoon recorded the highest crime severity index in the country with a rating of 112.5, up two per cent from the previous year. Regina was next at 106.7, followed by Edmonton at 101.6. Heading further west to B.C., Kelowna was next highest at 98.0, Abbotsford–Mission at 96.6 and Vancouver at 96.2

29% LARGEST INCREASE IN 2015

Calgary recorded a 29-per-cent boost in crime severity last year, ahead of Moncton at 20 per cent. Victoria and Edmonton saw the next highest increases at 16 per cent respective­ly, followed by Abbotsford-Mission at 14 per cent.

22% TOP VIOLENT VIOLATIONS

Incidents of attempted murder and the use, discharge and pointing of a firearm rose 22 per cent across the country in 2015, while homicides were up 15 per cent and robberies up five per cent. The number of sexual assaults and major assaults also rose last year, by four and three per cent respective­ly.

15% TOP PROPERTY CRIME VIOLATIONS

The number of frauds rose 15 per cent in 2015, eclipsing incidents of possession of stolen property and identity fraud, which were up 13 per cent and nine per cent respective­ly. Theft over $5,000 also jumped up eight per cent, while thefts of a motor vehicle rose six per cent, and breaking and entering four per cent

12.55 HIGHEST % CHANGE IN VIOLENT CRIME IN B.C. FOR A METROPOLIT­AN AREA

Abbotsford-Mission, which recorded 14,818 incidents in 2015, saw the largest percentage change in B.C. at 12.55, ahead of Victoria, which experience­d 24,933 and with a percentage change of 7.87. Kelowna had 18,593 incidents, with a percentage change of 4.43, while Metro Vancouver trailed the pack with 204,827, but a percentage change in rate of only 0.06.
