Olympic champ puts hammer down on record

World and Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland broke her own hammer throw world record Sunday with a toss of 82.98 metres. Wlodarczyk set the previous world record of 82.29 metres to claim the Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro. The 31-year-old beat the previous meet record at the Kamila Skolimowsk­a Memorial in Warsaw with each of her five valid throws, opening with 79.68 metres and improving with each of her next three efforts to set the world record.
