Five places to spot the royal family in Vancouver
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — that’s Will and Kate to you and me — are packing up the kids, George and Charlotte, and coming to B.C. for a whirlwind Royal Tour, Sept. 24-Oct. 1.
Here are five spots the royals will visit during their Vancouver stop on Sunday, Sept. 25 (itinerary times have not been released):
Stop 1 Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre and Jack Poole Plaza
The royal family will touch down in Vancouver Harbour on a float plane where they will be greeted by dignitaries and the adoring public in Jack Pool Plaza.
Stop 2 Sheway
The Duke and Duchess will pay a visit to the Downtown Eastside and tour Sheway (533 East Hastings St.), a program that provides health and social service support to pregnant women, and women with infants who are dealing with addiction issues.
Stop 3 Immigrant Services Society
Will and Kate will tour the Immigrant Services Society’s new 58,000-square-foot Welcome Centre (2610 Victoria Dr.), a facility that provides settlement, education and employment services to more than 25,000 immigrants and refugees each year.
Stop 4 Telus Gardens
The royal couple will attend a reception at Telus Gardens (510 West Georgia St.) where they will meet “young Canadians who are helping to build Canada and making a difference in their communities.”
Stop 5 Kitsilano Coast Guard Station
Will and Kate’s final public reception in Vancouver will be at the recently reopened Kitsilano Coast Guard Station for a first responders showcase. “This enhanced station, the first of its kind in Canada, works with Indigenous groups, coastal communities and local response partners to provide improved marine safety off Canada’s West Coast,” according to the Royal Tour press release. The issue of improving mental health for those who serve others — Canada’s first responders — will be discussed.
