Three things to watch

-

1 MORALES’S SWAN SONG? Is this Pedro Morales’s last game in a Caps shirt? As he said back in August: “Maybe. You never know. ”Well, we know the guaranteed portion of his $1.47-million contract is up. And we know he’s struggled to recapture that sizzling form of 2014, when he won MLS newcomer of the year. And we know 2+2=4.

2 MATTOCKS RETURNS Here’s a fun scenario for Caps fans to imagine: Darren Mattocks scoring the winning goal Sunday at B.C. Place to lift Portland into the playoffs and claim the Cascadia Cup on enemy turf. What an end to this miserable season that would be!

3 PLANNING AHEAD? Carl Robinson was asked this week if he might tinker with the lineup a bit, with an eye toward next season. He said he’ll look at that. Not likely. Don’t underestimate how badly he will want to win this game. And surely by now Robinson’s made his mind up on players. On the injury front, it doesn’t look like Alphonso Davies will be ready to go. Russell Teibert is also out. Christian Dean won’t see minutes, either, Robinson said.
