Architect wins seat on West Vancouver council
Architect and urban planner Peter Lambur has won a seat on West Vancouver district council after a municipal byelection on Saturday.
Lambur was one of 12 candidates vying for the seat left empty after the death of Councillor Michael Lewis in August.
Lambur received 1,262 votes according to the unofficial results posted on the district of West Vancouver website. During his campaign Lambur, 65, advocated revitalization and growth, a new official community plan, and a renewed transportation and traffic management plan.
Lambur also said he wants to restore public confidence in the community process around development by fixing the “top-down” approach of the current municipal government, and pave the way for more community consultation.
Lambur, who lives near Park Royal in Ambleside, has said he values the walkability of the Marine Drive neighbourhood, and wants to retain the “village feel” of the community. Lambur has been a longtime opponent of big box development in West Vancouver, and is a proponent of low-rise mixed use development.
West Vancouver is one of Canada’s wealthiest municipalities. Rapid growth, a limited industrial land-base and skyrocketing real estate values have created issues around neighbourhood character, transit and affordable housing in the community.
