Members ‘don’t just build to the building code; they build above.’

The fourth Grand Housing of Excellence Award went to South Ridge Developments Ltd., named Custom Home Builder of the Year. South Ridge also earned an award in the category Custom Home valued $450,000 — $699,999 for Farmhouse Charm (Life Above).

“It’s a transformation of a farmhouse,” MacLeod said of the Langley home. “It’s spectacular on the inside, with very much a rustic feel.”

Most — if not all — of the finalists and winners have been in business in the Fraser Valley for over a decade.

“Our builder members are building to a pretty high standard of building,” MacLeod said. “They don’t just build to the building code; they build above. Anyone looking to purchase a home can definitely take solace in the fact that they know when they purchase a home, or have a home built by one of our members, that they are getting one of better products out there.”

Building activity has been more than a little brisk in the valley, MacLeod notes.

“A lot of our builders have product that has yet to be built and they have work for the next year and a half,” she says. “So it is booming in the Fraser Valley. Even our multi-family , they’re sold out and they’ve yet to build the product.”

So the Fraser Valley Housing Awards of Excellence were timely, and judging from the turnout for the ceremony at the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre in Abbotsford on a snowy evening, eagerly awaited.

“We probably had not even two per cent of people not show up,” MacLeod said. “And it was a white-out, the day of. I was worried, thinking how the heck is this going to go over? But they all showed up and that was eye-opening to how important it was to them.”
