Wishes for a joyful spring of peace and prosperity

-

On Monday, March 20, more than six million Bahá’ís around the world, of various backgrounds, will be celebrating The Bahá’í New Year (Naw-Rúz).

This day is celebrated each year at the Spring Equinox, March 20 to 22.

The Bahá’í New Year is always after the Festival of Ayyámi-Há, which follows a 19-day period of Fasting, a time of inner contemplation and transformation during the last month of the Bahá’í calendar. The Bahá›í see great value in the practice of fasting as a detachment and discipline for the soul, fasting from dawn till dusk each day strengthening their belief in God.

Bahá’ís are the followers of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. His name means ‘Glory of God.’

During the Festival of Ayyámi-Há, Bahá›ís are encouraged to celebrate God and His Oneness by showing love, fellowship and unity.

It is a time of charity, goodwill, participation in various projects of a humanitarian nature and it stands in contrast to the Fast.

“Praised be Thou, O my God, that Thou hast ordained NawRúz as a festival unto those who have observed the Fast for love of Thee and abstained from all that is abhorrent unto thee. Grant, O my Lord, that the fire of Thy love and the heat produced by the Fast enjoined by Thee may inflame them in Thy Cause, and make them to be occupied with Thy praise and with remembrance of Thee….”

- Bahá’u’lláh

Naw-Rúz has been a special holiday for Persians for thousands of years and is celebrated by Iranian (Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Zoroastrian, and Bahá’í) as well as a cultural holiday in many other countries.

The Bahá’ís enjoy all the wonderful concepts and precepts given to us by Bahá’u’lláh, which will reorient the world’s people to bring peace and unity to all.

The Bahá’í community of Langley wish you a joyful spring with prosperity and peace.
