Willoughby: Langley’s fastest-growing community
Take a look south of the Fraser and it’s no secret the Fraser Valley is becoming more and more attractive to new homebuyers and young families.
Take Langley, for example. According to the latest census, Langley’s population jumped from 104,000 in 2011 to 117,000 in 2016, a growth of 12.8 per cent. Langley’s fastest-growing community is Willoughby, with about 256 new residents every month, according to BC Stats. With 28,000 residents currently calling it home, Willoughby is projected to have a population of 80,000 by 2041.
Willoughby is close to the Langley Events Centre ,Willowbrook Shopping Centre, new restaurants like S+ L, bars, and breweries like Trading Post. It’s also home to the bustling central hub, Willoughby Town Centre, where residents can find everything they need, from fitness to local grocery, movie theatres and entertainment.
Young families are attracted to the area as it’s close to the shops, nearby trails for the fitness buffs and nature lovers, as well as historic Fort Langley. A new secondary school and upgrades to some older schools are also slated for the Township of Langley and surrounding areas. For weekends in Vancouver, the area is close to the highway and less than 45 minutes to the city.
With more new developments in the area, like The Wex, there’s something for everyone. The Wex offers the full Willoughby Experience with affordability, beauty and convenience. Located in Willoughby, the new development offers floor plans with one bedroom and one bath, two bedrooms and one bath, along with something for bigger families: two bedrooms plus two baths and flex. All this starting from $279, 000 to $399,900.
For the full Willoughby Experience — hence the name — you’re invited to The Wex block party on March 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Party at The Wex will be a day filled with entertainment from local performers, beer tasting by Trading Post Brewing, fresh authentic Italian pizza from the Mad Italian, and Mattu’s will also be providing coffee, tea and treats. To top it off, take in sweet dessert provided by Dairy Queen and, of course, experience a growing area of Langley.
