Silver Muse the best of Silversea’s luxury line

- Aaron Saunders

The launch of a new ship is always exciting, but for luxury-line Silversea, its brand new, 596-guest Silver Muse set expectations high. Not only is it the largest ship the two-decade old line has ever built, but it’s also the line’s most elaborate, loaded with new features that add to the overall Silversea experience while respecting its past formula of quiet luxury and personalized service.

I was able to spend four days onboard Silver Muse recently, on a special delivery voyage from the shipyard in Genoa to Barcelona prior to her official entry into service. Onboard: a packed ship of discerning travel agents, media, and Silversea executives that would put the line’s first new vessel in seven years through her paces. And she’s passed with flying colours.

The first thing I noticed was how wide and airy the ship’s corridors have become. That goes too for the ship’s suites, all of which are wider and deeper aboard Silver Muse than the line’s past vessels. Opening the balcony door of my suite revealed a veranda so large I could have held a cocktail party for eight.

Suites have been graced with an all-new décor scheme that is brighter and more modern than past vessels. Lighting has been improved, along with better controls for the AC, more electrical outlets, and larger flat-panel televisions (two, in fact) — both of which are inset into the mirrors in standard balcony suites.

Silversea has also added more topof-the-line suites to Silver Muse, including the exceptionally-spacious Silver Suites; a great option for those who are looking for more space but don’t want to spring for the more expensive Royal and Owner’s Suites. Guests can even book the new Balsorano Owner’s Suite, personally outfitted by Silversea’s chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio.

Other new features abound, including an Arts Café that combines books, coffee and light bites in an attractive space at the stern of the ship, and a great new main bar concept known as Dolce Vita. Silver Muse also does away with the outdated “main dining room” concept, instead offering up eight different styles of dining onboard, from the Italian-themed La Terrazza to the elegant La Dame, the only Relais & Chateaux restaurant at sea.

Silver Muse spends time this year in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe before setting sail for Canada, New England and the Caribbean this winter. Her 2018 itineraries are already available for booking.
