Fans turn out in droves for Internet superstar Lilly Singh’s book tour

Author and Internet star Lilly Singh’s book tour for How to be a Bawse is like a military operation. No fan will be left behind. “I’m meeting everyone, I met 680 people at the venue yesterday (April 25),” said the Toronto native who now calls Los Angeles home.

That venue was in Vancouver and the midway point in a 12-country, 34-stop tour that also had her in Burnaby April 26.

Singh, a.k.a. Superwoman, who has 11.5 million YouTube subscribers and over one billion views, is now firmly in the land of real live traditional media with her new book How to be a Bawse.

Subtitled A Guide to Conquering Life, it is a self-help book that encourages readers to follow their dreams and get the job done, Singh style. That style is simple: work hard.

“It’s been a little more strenuous in that sense,” said Singh about the meet and great aspect of the tour. “It’s manageable. I hope and think.

“It’s actually smaller than my last tour in terms of the production. My last tour was theatrical dancers. The show is actually less intense,” added the 28-year-old, who was on Forbes’s 2016 30 under 30: Hollywood and Entertainment list.

“The flow is everything. The flow is the make or break with me. I’m very particular as to who is positioned where, and who does what. For safety and to make sure everyone has the best time possible,” said Singh, whose YouTube videos include guest stars like Michelle Obama, The Rock and, most recently, Bill Gates.

“It’s very much down to a science. I have it broken down to how everyone can have the best time.”

Her fans used to be only teenagers but Singh says as of late a wider age range is showing up, but still her biggest supporters are aged 15-24. They eat up her online and social media persona. But do they want a hard copy book? Singh says yes.

“When I liked someone I bought every bit of merch they had.”
