- — Steve Ewen

The B.C. Lions announced that their two first-round CFL draft selections, receiver Danny Vandervoort (third overall) and defensive lineman Junior Luke (seventh), signed with the club on Wednesday.

No other details were announced for the pair, who starred for in U Sports for McMaster University and University of Montreal, respectively.

As well, the Lions announced that they have inked American kicker/punter Ty Long and American offensive lineman Aaron Epps to contracts.

Long, 24, originally signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in May 2015 and spent time with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016. The Roswell, Ga., native was a kicking specialist in college at Alabama Birmingham, making 59 of 77 field-goal attempts over his 48-game career there. His longest was 54 yards against Ohio State in 2012.

The Lions signed veteran kicker/punter Swayze Waters, 30, a veteran of 46 CFL games over four years with the Toronto Argos, as a free agent in February. He, oddly enough, is an AlabamaBirmingham product, too.

The Lions lost Richie Leone to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pounds Epps, 24, was an undrafted free-agent signing of the Cincinnati Bengals in May 2016. He spent time on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice roster. The Tucker, Ga., native is a Louisville alum.
