Mother Mother, Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top among acts at PNE

Vancouver indie rock band Mother Mother will kick off this year’s summer night concerts at the PNE.

The Pacific National Exhibition released its lineup of musical acts for the 2017 Fair at the PNE on Monday, and it’s a star-studded, genre-spanning group of Canadian and internatio­nal acts. In addition to Mother Mother, who hit the stage on Saturday, Aug. 19, the fair will see concerts from The Pointer Sisters, ZZ Top, Chicago, and the B-52s, among others.

The Summer Night Concerts, which are free with admission to the Fair, run every evening. Here’s the full list of performers coming to Vancouver this year:

Wednesday, Aug. 23 – High Valley

Tuesday, Aug. 29 – Tom Cochrane with Red Rider

Saturday, Sept. 2 – The Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo

In addition to the concert series, the PNE is loaded with other attraction­s as the fair goes big for Canada 150.

“Every Summer British Columbians come together to celebrate the season at The Fair at the PNE,” Mike McDaniel, President and CEO of the PNE, said in a release.

“This year’s Fair is celebratin­g Canada’s 150th by featuring special acts, new attraction­s and shows that are here for this year only.”

Other highlights of this year’s fair include the RCMP Musical Ride, the Hockey Hall of Fame Legends of Hockey Exhibit, Toytopia, with its classic toys and retro arcade games, and Xtreme Bugs, featuring 19 giant, animatroni­c bugs.

Returning favourites include the Craft Beer Fest, with up to 30 craft breweries participat­ing and, of course, the PNE prize home.

The 2017 Fair runs from Saturday, Aug. 19 to Monday, Sept. 4.
