Oosterdam takes the Mexican Riviera

- Aaron Saunders

Good news for sun-seekers this fall: Holland America Line has announced that the 1,964-guest Oosterdam (pronounced oh-sterdam) will be joining her sister, Westerdam, in the Mexican Riviera this fall, with weeklong sailings operating out of the Port of San Diego.

Oosterdam, which has called the Mexican Riviera home in past seasons, will sail a total of 11 weeklong voyages to the region between September 2017 and February 2018, with cruises offering port calls in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.

“Holland America Line’s last season in Mexico was very popular so we are adding capacity for the next season so that more of our guests can enjoy these itineraries that truly showcase the allure of the destination,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “Our Mexico cruises offer convenience and ease, especially for a multi-generational family looking for a unique vacation.”

Oosterdam kicks off the season on Sept. 30, 2017, operating two backto-back sailings from San Diego. Sister-ship Westerdam will begin operating in the Mexican Riviera on Nov. 27, with the bulk of her departures occurring in January and February of 2018. Oosterdam, however, will operate two special holiday cruises to the Mexican Riviera, timed to coincide with Christmas and New Years, respectively.

While most of these voyages are just seven days in length, Oosterdam’s first Mexican Riviera sailing of the year can be combined with a five-night Pacific Coastal voyage from Vancouver, creating a 12-day cruise that departs from Vancouver on September 25, 2017.

Throughout voyages on both ships, guests will be treated to numerous authentic Mexican experiences, both onboard and ashore, as part of the line’s new Explorations Central programming.
