An Alberta man has been arrested after a stabbing incident early Saturday morning in downtown Vancouver.

Police officers stationed in the Granville Entertainment District noticed a disturbance in the 900-block Granville Street around 3:30 a.m. Police quickly stepped in.

“Officers discovered one man in the crowd had been stabbed, and they were able to locate and arrest a second man for the assault,” said Const. Jason Doucette in an email.

A 22-year-old Nanaimo man was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

A 25-year-old Alberta man was arrested and remained in custody on Saturday. No additional details were released about the suspect or victim.

Doucette said it’s unclear what led to the assault and that it doesn’t appear that the pair knew each other. Police spoke to witnesses at the scene and have been combing the site for clues.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Vancouver police.
