Surf-loving train riders rejoice

-

California beach bums can now declare “surf’s up!” while they ride the rails. The Metrolink transit system in Los Angeles has announced that it will be offering special services to surfing hotbeds San Clemente and Oceanside. Trains on those routes will have designated cars that can accommodate up to five full-sized surfboards. Wave-chasers say the move is long overdue. Ian Hughes, 16, told the Orange Country Register that Metrolink officials were initially reluctant to get surfers on board. “They were really against it and we really wanted to do it, so it was kind of annoying,” he said. “They allow bikes, why shouldn’t they allow surfboards?”
